Purespectra has developed two models, Model C5 and Model C3, that are designed to inspect pills. These models use backlight and front light illumination to recognize pills for sorting purposes. The front light is used for color inspection and measurement of the shape or dimensions of the pill. However, many pills are transparent to the wavelength of the backlight. In this way, the molecular structure effect is used and the imprint of the text is very strongly visible 1.
